We like it so much that we chose it for our own site. But one thing we wished it had is more colors. Not all the default colors were great and it missed some of the common colors. So, we thought: Why not add more color styles to it? It is a GPL theme after all and it seemed fun to do it:)

Here you go !

We added two more color schemes namely, Golden and Wine.

Installation instructions:

1. Download our Colorful Lifestyle pack.

2.. This is not a stand alone theme. This contains only few modified files that should be replaced in Lifestyle child theme made by StudioPress. Please purchase Lifestyle child theme and Genesis theme framework.

Once you have the Lifestyle child theme, get the files in the Colorful Lifestyle pack and replace the following original files:

style.css

functions.php

lib/style.php

screenshot.png

Copy the golden and wine headers and thumbs one by one to the following folders:

/images/
/images/thumbs

Please do not replace the whole folders.

Rename the Lifestyle theme folder as colorful-lifestyle .

3. Upload the Colorful Lifestyle child theme folder via FTP to your wp-content/themes/ directory. (The Genesis parent theme needs to be in the wp-content/themes/ directory as well.)

4. Go to your WordPress dashboard and select Appearance.

5. Activate the Colorful Lifestyle theme.

6. Inside your WordPress dashboard, go to Genesis > Theme Settings and configure them to your liking.

Initially, we thought of calling this as a grand child theme But we realised that a modifed child theme is also a child theme !

Free WordPress themes became a thing of stone age after Premium WordPress themes trend started booming in late 2008.

Though there are lot of Premium WordPress themes making companies around, only a few like StudioPress, WooThemes, Thesis are making a mark. I have purchased few themes from Themeforest. The major attraction is a wide variety of designs at a reasonable rate for various needs. Some times, the famous theme design companies can bore you with their same scheme of layouts In this regard, designers being able to sell child themes based upon popular GPL WordPress theme frameworks is an interesting outcome.

One disadvantage is that support, upgrades for a theme are not assured when there is no active community around it. Also, while the look may be good the functionality, ease of use, SEO goodness assured in the popular theme companies may be missing. Freelancers like me also can’t afford to pay for each theme. A club membership or selling GPL themes will help.

I have found these resources invaluable and saves you loads of time spent in understanding and customizing the theme. I am also guaranteed to get the latest version of all themes and instant access to new theme releases in future.

Premium WordPress theme designing is a small and growing community. The more we support it the more we can get from it. The success of the current GPL theme providers is very important to encourage more designers to release their themes under GPL.

Why you should not buy from resellers?

Theme resellers don’t respect the spirit of GPL but take unfair use of it. This is equivalent to leeching. They neither add any value to the theme nor do any work to deserve the money they charge. I am not naming the site here so as not to give it free advertising. Also, this may be just the first of many sites to come. The site I saw don’t even have a name / face. What is the guarantee that they will stay for long?
